Janome Memory Craft 6600 Professional

These Reviews:

These reviews of the Janomes was not limited to these machines, but included their entire line. All of the benefits of the lower models are included in the higher models, and therefore not mentioned again. Thus, the benefits appear to be less and less as the machines get better and better, where, in reality, all benefits of the higher machines include all benefits of the lower ones, except where specifically mentioned.

A comparison of features and accessories are presented in tabular form at the bottom of the page.

Why we chose the 6600:

This is Ruth’s machine, and she loves it. The major advantages over the 6500 are: dual feed feet to keep both pieces of fabric moving together [which is important in sewing square and having a flat top], and the pressure foot will hold open at the top [very high] position, making positioning easier for multiple fabrics and quilts.

Janome Memory Craft 6500 Professional

Why we chose the 6500:

This is my favorite because it is smooth [with 5 feed dogs], shows you the stitch you have selected on the screen, allows editing of the stitches, has a knee-operated pressure foot, and a programmable thread-cutter [which is extremely beneficial as I can not easily pick up scissors with my fat fingers]. With these features I can keep my hands and eyes on the project.

Also important to the quilter is that there are 72 needle drop positions. This means that you can use regular and open feet for quilting and position the needle for your quarter inch and scant quarter allowances. This is really important as everyone sits differently and sees even the quarter inch foot at a different angle and the 72 positions will make your allowances exact.

Janome Jem 760 Professional

Why we chose the 760:

This is the first fully computerized sewing machine. It has blanket stitches for machine appliqué in addition to the zig-zags. The stitch length and width are completely selectable. There are 10 needle drop positions to assist in “scant” quarters and other such needs.

Attached to the machine is a “cheat-sheet” that shows all stitches and their numbers so that you don’t have to look anything up in a book.

This machine is lighter than the Gold2 at 10 pounds.

Janome 661 Jem Gold 2

jem_g2.jpg

Why we chose the Jem Gold2:

This is a good basic, smooth-running, sturdy, and portable quilting sewing machine.

It is a mechanical sewing machine rather than a computerized machines. This means that the 25 year warrantee is not limited by the electronics. It also means that sewing must go forward or backward, implying that appliqué will be done with zig-zag stitches.

In the event you want to do machine quilting, you should consider the additional quilting kit.

Please note: we stock only the best models for quilting. We can sell any model. We are not allowed to sell these models over the internet or by phone. All sewing machines must be picked up in the shop.
